Gunmen set fire to bus transporting cement factory employees in Abyan

ABYAN, July 08 (YPA) – Unidentified gunmen set fire ON Tuesday to a bus transporting workers and employees at the Al-Wahda Cement Factory in Abyan Governorate, which is under the control of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.

A human rights source reported that the gunmen, likely affiliated with the STC, intercepted the bus as it left the factory in the Batis area. They sprayed the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire.

The source explained that the incident occurred near the Bir al-Hasani area, where the gunmen forced the driver to get out before carrying out the arson attack, which resulted in the complete destruction of the bus.

This incident is an extension of a series of previous attacks, including the kidnapping of several factory officials last May, in addition to an armed attack targeting another bus carrying employees in March 2024, which resulted in four injuries.

The attacks are part of ongoing regional incitement campaigns targeting the factory’s management in recent years.

Abyan’s districts are suffering from stifling security chaos due to the absence of state authorities and the dominance of rival Saudi-led coalition-affiliated factions seeking to control resources and impose fees and levies on drivers on major roads.
