HADRAMOUT, July 8 (YPA) – Hundreds of teachers and educators have reportedly left their positions in schools across Yemen’s oil-rich Hadramout province to join Saudi-led coalition’s factions, lured by financial incentives, amid growing concerns over the collapse of the education system.
A well-informed local source in the province reported that around 615 teachers have abandoned the education sector across various districts of Hadramout and join the Saudi-funded “Dera Al-Watan) forces.
This shift comes in response to the starvation policy imposed by the Saudi-led coalition against public employees and citizens in Yemen’s southern and eastern provinces.
The source noted that many of the teachers leaving their jobs are based in Mukalla, the provincial capital, with some having served in education for nearly two decades. While some have opted to join armed groups, others have left the country in search of work opportunities in neighboring states to provide for their families.
The source described the recruitment of teachers into Saudi and Emirati-backed factions as a deliberate and systematic effort to sabotage the future of education in coalition-held provinces.
The local source warned of a looming humanitarian crisis as public sector salaries remain unpaid for the second consecutive month
The local source warned that the continued suspension of public sector salaries for the second consecutive month by the by the pro-coalition government, could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe, including the deterioration of education, healthcare, and other essential services.
