US Congress refuses to restrict Trump on Iran

WASHINGTON, June 28 (YPA) – The US Senate rejected a bill introduced by Democrats that would prevent President Trump from launching any military action against Iran without prior congressional approval.

The Senate voted 53-47 against the bill, introduced by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine on June 16, resulting in its defeat.

During pre-vote deliberations, Kaine noted that the bill is based on the 1973 War Powers Resolution, passed during the Vietnam War to limit the president’s ability to launch hostilities without congressional approval.

“The events we’ve seen this week confirm that the decision to go to war is too big to be left to one man,” Kaine said.
