TEHRAN, June 21 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Iran will not enter into direct negotiations with the United States as long as the Israeli occupation continues its military campaign.
During his meeting in Geneva with his French, British, and German counterparts, as well as European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas, Araqchi said that Iran is prepared to restrict its uranium enrichment in a manner similar to the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the United States withdrew in 2018. However, he made clear that Iran will not agree to the US demand to halt enrichment.
Araqchi also confirmed to Iranian media after the meeting that Tehran remains committed to the diplomatic track and is ready to meet again with European Foreign Ministers, stressing that Iran will not negotiate its defense capabilities.
At the same time, Axios quoted European diplomats familiar with the discussions as saying that the two-hour meeting between Iran and the Western powers did not result in any diplomatic breakthrough, as neither side presented a new proposal.
The meeting was described as initial contact, and the two sides agreed to meet again next week, according to European diplomats.
European diplomats said the Iranians were more open than before to discuss not only restrictions on their nuclear program, but also a range of non-nuclear issues, including Iran’s missile program, its network of regional proxies, military aid to Russia, and European detainees in Iran.
