ADEN, June 14 (YPA) -A prominent tribal sheikh from the Al-Subaiha tribes has suddenly disappeared from a prison controlled by UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces in Aden, the southern Yemeni port city under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.
According to the sources, the Security Belt Forces transferred detainee Abdulwali al-Subaihi — head of the so-called Political Bureau of the Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement — from his cell at al-Nasr Camp to an unknown location.
The sources added that al-Subaihi had been held in a shared cell with fellow detainee Anas al-Jardhami al-Yafaei, who died last week under torture.
On Wednesday, STC personnel reportedly removed al-Subaihi from the cell and took him to an unknown destination, with his fate remaining unclear.
The disappearance of Sheikh al-Subaihi has sparked deep concern among his family, tribe, and human rights circles in Aden, fearing he may face the same fate as al-Jardhami, who was abducted last April.
Human rights activists in Aden called for the immediate and unconditional release of al-Subaihi, and for authorities to disclose his whereabouts and ensure his safety.
The Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement issued a statement revealing that its leader, al-Subaihi, was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture following his abduction, which led to a serious deterioration in his health.
The Council condemned the torture as part of a systematic campaign targeting leaders and members of the Southern Revolutionary Movement and suppressing voices demanding the legitimate rights of southerners.
