GAZA, May 26 (YPA) -Abdul Nasser Al-Ajrami, head of the Bakeries Owners Association in the Gaza Strip, confirmed on Monday that all bakeries in the central Gaza Strip have ceased operations, including those working in coordination with the World Food Programme (WFP).
According to Palestine Today Agency, Al-Ajrami explained that the amount of bread produced barely covered 10% of the needs of the population in the central region.
He pointed out that problems and raids on bakeries have occurred, driven by hunger and the dire need for bread and flour, in addition to the fact that the quantities of bread produced were already insufficient.
Al-Ajrami further clarified that the association sent a letter to the WFP, stating its inability to continue operating under the current mechanism, and called for flour to be distributed directly to citizens in cooperation with international organizations as an initial step.
He added: “The organization informed us that the Israeli side refuses to distribute flour directly to citizens, and insists that aid be delivered through bakeries.”
