One killed, several wounded in Israeli attack in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, May 20 (YPA) – A young man was killed and others were injured Tuesday morning in an Israeli airstrike targeted a motorcycle on the Mansouri-Majdal Zoun road in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon.

This is a new violation of the ceasefire agreement in effect in the area since last April.

The National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone carried out the airstrike, resulting in civilian casualties. The identities and health conditions of the injured have not yet been determined.

Lebanese media reported that the airstrike resulted in the immediate death of one person, while several others were wounded. They noted that the bombing occurred near a school, causing panic and fear among students and staff at the nearby school.

This escalation comes amid ongoing tensions on Lebanon’s southern border, amidst the exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, and growing fears that the situation could slide into a full-scale confrontation.

This operation constitutes a direct violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which stipulated a cessation of hostilities between the two sides since 2006, amid repeated Lebanese demands for the international community to pressure Israeli occupation to halt its repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
