Golan’s remarks spark political storm in “Israel”

ALQUDS, May 20 (YPA) – Statements that former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation forces, Yair Golan, sparked a storm of angry reactions in Israeli political circles after he described the Israeli crimes being committed in Gaza as Nazi acts.

Golan expressed his feelings of shame and disgrace regarding the behavior of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and its crimes against Palestinian women and children in the Strip.

In a report was translated by the Yemen Press Agency after Hebrew website “0404” had posted, Golan, one of the most prominent figures of the leftist opposition, said, What “Israel” is doing in Gaza cannot be justified, and killing children as a hobby, as well as it acts like a rational state, but rather a criminal approach that would destroy “Israel” image before the world.”

Golan pointed out that some ministers in the current government “glorify killing and displacement as if they are outside of history and morality.”

Golan’s statements sparked a wave of sharp criticism from Israeli government ministers, who described them as “bloody slander” and “dangerous incitement against the state and its army.”

The occupation’s foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar said, “Golan’s slander against Israel and the IDF will not be forgiven, and will contribute to turning the world against us,” considering his statements a “stab in the back.”

Minister Ofir Sa’ar called for Golan’s removal from public life, adding, “The claim that Israel kills children as a hobby is a despicable lie and an insult to the ethics of our army.” He accused Golan of ignoring what he called “the harsh reality Israel faces in its battle against Hamas.”

For his part, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir described Golan’s statements as “bloody anti-Semitic slander,” while former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that “anyone who compares Israel to Nazism and incites against its army must be expelled from political life.”

Criticism also has been escalated over Golan’s past record, after ministers had reminded the public of his previous statements in 2016, when he likened the settlers’ behavior to what happened in Nazi Germany before World War II, which sparked widespread controversy at the time.

This assault came at a time of mounting international pressure on “Israel” regarding its ongoing aggression against Gaza, which, since October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, most of them civilians, in crimes of genocide against Palestinian civilians, the likes of which history has never known.
