European parliamentarians demonstrate in front of Egyptian Rafah crossing in solidarity with Gaza

SANAA, May 19 (YPA) – Several members of the European Parliament, Italian deputies, and representatives of civil society in Italy and the European Union demonstrated in front of the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, demanding an end to the war in Gaza and the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Strip.

Cecilia Strada, a member of the European Parliament, said in front of the Rafah crossing that “Europe must do more. Europe is not doing enough. It is doing nothing to stop the massacre.”

Strada called for “freezing agreements between the European Union and Israel, which should be based on respect for human rights, and this is not the case.”

The demonstration comes the day after the occupation army announced that it had launched extensive strikes and transferred forces to control areas in Gaza, in operations that resulted in the deaths of more than 80 Palestinians on the first day of the expanded Israeli military campaign.

Israel has been preventing the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip since the beginning of March, days before resuming military operations after a fragile two-month truce at the beginning of the year.

The European demonstrators carried banners reading: “Stop arming Israel,” “Stop the genocide,” and “End the illegal occupation.”

The demonstrators stood behind rows of dolls and toys placed on the ground in solidarity with the children in the besieged Strip.
