MSF: Palestinians are living a humanitarian nightmare and Gaza is without medicine or food

SANAA, May 14 (YPA) – Doctors Without Borders reported, on Wednesday, that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating every day, under a comprehensive blockade imposed by the Israeli authorities for more than two months.

The organization said in a statement, that this blockade, the most severe since the Israeli occupation’s withdrawal from the Strip in 2007, has turned the lives of the besieged Palestinians into an ongoing humanitarian nightmare, in which all standards of life and dignity are violated.

The organization continued that food is running out, medical supplies are in short supply, and ambulances and health facilities are operating at a minimal level, amid a severe shortage of fuel needed to operate them.

NGOs, which rely on the United Nations to distribute fuel in Rafah, find themselves helpless because the Israeli authorities prevent this fuel from reaching Gaza.

The organization noted that the Israeli war is causing dozens of deaths and injuries every day, with the absence of basic supplies and the increasing death toll, not only from bombing but also from hunger and disease.

The statement continued: “Hospitals and medical facilities are overflowing with patients, while any aid is being prevented from entering. What we are witnessing is not just a crisis, but a complete collapse of the life system in Gaza, and a dangerously close loss of the ability to save lives.”

Doctors Without Borders called on the Israeli occupation authorities and their supporters to abide by international humanitarian law and follow the principles that stipulate full and unconditional permission for humanitarian aid to civilians trapped inside the Strip.

It is worth noting that Palestinian medical sources reported on Wednesday that 66 people were killed as a result of the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip since midnight, including 50 killed in the northern part of the Strip.
