SANAA, July 24 (YPA) – UNICEF strongly condemned on Tuesday targeting of a water project by the US-backed Saudi-led coalition warplanes in Saada province for the third time.
In a statement, the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Geert Cappelaere, said that a huge water facility in Saada, in northwestern Yemen, was attacked and it is the third attack on the same facility..
Cappelaere pointed out that more than half of the project became destructive, which led to the interruption of drinking water for 10,500 people.
.
Cappelaere said the access to such services is practically to survive boys and girls in Yemen, and if these facilities continue to be attacked, this will lead to the loss of more lives, including many children.
He confirmed that attacks on civilian infrastructure, including water networks, were considered as violation of international humanitarian law.
Cappelaere renewed UNICEF’s call to all parties of conflict to stop all attacks and all military operations on or near civilian infrastructure, including water networks, facilities, schools, hospitals and clinics.
