Aden plunged into darkness: Power outages hit 19 hours daily amid heatwave and fuel crisis

ADEN, April 27 (YPA) – Power outages in the city of Aden, under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, have surged to 19 hours per day, doubling the suffering of citizens amidst a stifling heatwave and a rapid collapse of services.

The people of Aden are facing an unprecedented electricity crisis, coinciding with a sharp deterioration in living conditions, which will exacerbate the suffering of families already deprived of the most basic necessities of life.

The electricity crisis worsened after the “Petromasila” power plant, which operates on crude oil, ceased functioning, in addition to the depletion of diesel fuel for the remaining power stations.

The pro-coalition government has not made any effort to import emergency fuel shipments, sparking widespread anger among citizens in Aden, with calls for an uprising against the government headquartered in Ma’ashiq Palace.

In a related context, the exchange rate of the US dollar has exceeded 2,521 Yemeni riyals, while the Saudi riyal’s selling price is nearing 665 Yemeni riyals. This has further impacted citizens’ living conditions due to rising prices of essential goods.

It appears that Aden’s electricity crisis will not end anytime soon, threatening to ignite a wave of angry protests at any moment as authorities continue to ignore citizens’ basic demands
