TAIZ, April 14 (YPA) – The Teachers’ Union in the Saudi-led coalition-controlled areas of Taiz province demanded the payment of nine months’ worth of salaries, the approval of allowances and financial benefits, and wage improvements to keep pace with the catastrophic high cost of living.
During a demonstration held yesterday, Sunday, the union emphasized the importance of resolving the situation of employees appointed in 2011, as well as those displaced and retired, and providing 100% comprehensive healthcare for teachers and their families, along with providing basic services and halting the ongoing deterioration of the local currency.
The union noted that the pro-coalition authorities possess sufficient financial resources, but they are directing them toward unnecessary expenditures, while teachers suffer from a sharp decline in their standard of living. The union asked, “How can teachers be left to face famine while the government officials receive their salaries in foreign currency, unaffected by the economic collapse?”
Teachers in Taiz called for a halt to the “mock” exams held amid the collapse of the education system. This warning comes amid deteriorating living conditions in the coalition-controlled areas, where the teaching profession is on the verge of collapse due to systematic neglect of the education sector.
