CHINA, April 12 (YPA) – China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao called on The World’s Trade Organization (WTO) members to unite against unilateralism and protectionism.
During a video call with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Friday, Wentao stressed the need to resolve differences through dialogue and cooperation.
Wentao noted that trade disputes among members were normal, but they had to resolved through consultations based on mutual respect and equality.
“The members must join forces to confront unilateral measures and promote open cooperation and the multilateral trading system,” he added.
In a related development, the Chinese Customs Tariff Commission announced raising tariffs on US imports from 84% to 125%, effective April 12.
The commission emphasized that this step came in response to repeated US restrictions, which have already raised tariffs on Chinese products to 145%.
