Sudan files formal lawsuit against UAE before ICJ

ABU DHABI, April 10 (YPA) – Sudan filed on Thursday a formal lawsuit against the UAE before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement it informed the ICJ that the United Arab Emirates was the “driving force” behind what it called genocide in Darfur, through its alleged support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighting the Sudanese army.

Khartoum accused the UAE of complicity in genocide against the Masalit tribe due to its alleged support for the RSF, which has been fighting the Sudanese army since 2023.

“The support provided by the United Arab Emirates, which continues today to the RSF and its allied militias, remains the main driver of the genocide manifested in killings, rapes, forced displacement, and looting,” Muawia Osman, Sudan’s acting justice minister, said at the start of the court hearings.

Sudan hopes that the court judges will force the UAE to end its support for the RSF and to compensate war victims.
