Britons face war crimes charges in Gaza

LONDON, April 07 (YPA) – Ten British citizens have been charged with war crimes after fighting alongside Israeli occupation forces in Gaza.

A group of British lawyers and researchers would file a complaint against them with the Metropolitan Police.

According to the British newspaper, The Guardian, Michael Mansfield, the UK’s most prominent human rights lawyer, is leading a team of lawyers who will submit a 240-page dossier to Scotland Yard’s war crimes unit, detailing crimes committed in Gaza, including killings of civilians and aid workers by sniper fire, and indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas and hospitals.

The report also accused the suspects of launching coordinated attacks on protected sites, including historical monuments and religious sites, and of forcibly displacing and deporting civilians.

“If one of our citizens commits a crime, we have to do something about it. Even if we can’t prevent foreign governments from behaving badly, we can at least prevent our own citizens from behaving badly,” Mansfield, known for his work on high-profile human rights cases, said. “British citizens are legally obligated not to be complicit in crimes committed in Palestine. No one is above the law.”

Mansfield noted that the report, which took six months to prepare, had not covered crimes committed in the Gaza Strip from October 2023 to May 2024.

According to the report, each of the crimes attributed to the ten suspects, some of whom hold dual nationality, constitutes a war crime or a crime against humanity.
