MOSCOW, March 05 (YPA) – Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday a ban on the entry of 9 Japanese citizens, including Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwai, into the country.
“Japan continues to impose sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that the ban came in response to these sanctions.
The Russian sanctions target both Japanese Foreign Minister, Takeshi Iwai, Japanese Ambassador to Kyiv Nakagome Masashi, former Japanese Ambassador to Kyiv, Matsuda Kuninori, representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and some businessmen.
Japan has joined the United States, the United Kingdom and other allies in punishing Moscow over the war in Ukraine, imposing sanctions on hundreds of Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, as well as companies and organizations.
