EU: We are ready to respond “immediately, firmly” to Trump customs duties

BRUSSELS, Feb. 27 (YPA) – The European Union (EU) has confirmed its readiness to respond quickly and decisively to US President Donald Trump’s announcement to impose tariffs on European goods and services, noting its commitment to protecting consumers and companies within the bloc.

EU spokesman Olof Gill stated on Thursday that the EU will confront any unjustified obstacles to free and fair trade, including the systematic use of tariffs to undermine legal and fair policies.

He stressed that “the EU will continue to defend the rights of its companies, workers, and consumers against any unjustified customs measures.”

Gill commented on Trump’s statements about establishing the European Union with the aim of overthrowing the United States, affirming that the EU represents the largest free market in the world and has contributed significantly to facilitating international trade.

He added that the EU has reduced costs for US exporters and unified many standards and regulations among 27 countries, providing a profitable investment environment for US companies in Europe.
