Socotra Airport’s staff renew their refusal to hand it over to Emirati company

SOCOTRA, Feb. 25 (YPA) – Socotra Airport employees have renewed their refusal to hand over the airport to an Emirati company, indicating that the airport is a sovereign facility that should not be managed by foreign parties without clear agreements.

They organized a second protest inside the airport, and confirmed that they prevented the employees of the UAE’s “Eastern Triangle” company from working except during flights until their demands are met.

They explained that the Yemeni Civil Aviation Law prohibits delegating the management of any air facility to foreign companies without official approval from the Council of Ministers and the Parliament, demanding that their rights be guaranteed and that the Emirati company be prevented from interfering in the airport management tasks.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Sanaa, in a statement issued on Monday, supported the rejection of this measure, considering it a violation of national sovereignty and a squandering of the rights of Yemenis.

The Authority confirmed that the Aviation Law prohibits foreign interference, stressing that the airport is currently managed by Yemeni competencies that provide services in accordance with international standards.
