SOCOTRA, Feb. 18 (YPA) – An angry night demonstration organized by dozens of citizens in protest against the sharp rise in the prices of fuel and basic materials in Qalansiyah area of the Socotra Archipelago, east of the Gulf of Aden.
Local sources on the island confirmed that the Emirati factions suppressed the demonstration with live bullets, which resulted in injuries among citizens.
The sources reported that the protesters chanted slogans calling for the departure of the UAE forces, improving the economic situation, and stopping the collapse of basic services.
The demonstrators denounced the monopoly exercised by the UAE’s ADNOC Company on oil derivatives, amid chants calling for the departure of the UAE forces.
The participants also held the UAE authorities fully responsible for the collapse of services and the economic situation, and called on citizens to stage a broad uprising against foreign forces and their affiliated factions that have exacerbated living conditions.
The demonstrations in Qalansiyah came amid a sharp economic deterioration in Socotra and the rest of the southern governorates under the control of the coalition.
