TAIZ, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Hundreds of teachers and university professors demonstrated on Sunday in the city of Taiz, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition-allied factions, demanding the payment of their delayed salaries and the improvement of their living conditions.
The demonstration was organized as part of a strike that has been ongoing for five weeks amid government disregard for the demands.
The protesters raised banners demanding the payment of salaries that have been delayed since 2016-2017 and called for improving the wage scale and disbursing allowances and bonuses, along with finding solutions to the severe economic crisis.
They also stressed the need to stop the collapse of the local currency, which has greatly harmed purchasing power.
The protesters noted the continuation of their strike until achieving their demands, indicating that the government’s disregard reflects a lack of seriousness in resolving the crises.
These protests come in conjunction with the escalation of demonstrations in Aden and other southern provinces, denouncing the deterioration of the economy and basic services and demanding the departure of the coalition and its loyal components.
