SHABWA, Feb. 10 (YPA) – A prominent military commander in the UAE-backed factions survived an assassination attempt in Shabwa province, southeastern Yemen.
Informed local sources confirmed that “Awad bin Shalil Al-Harithi, the commander of the First Battalion in the Fifth Shabwa Defense Brigade, survived an assassination attempt yesterday, Sunday, when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded while he was passing on his military vehicle in the Markha district.
The sources explained that unidentified armed individuals, believed to be members of Al-Qaeda, detonated the explosive device as Al-Harithi passed by, without mentioning any human or material losses.
This attempt comes amid escalating tensions in Shabwa, which has been witnessing unprecedented security chaos since 2016, alongside increasing attacks against UAE-backed factions in the Al-Saeed district, south of Ataq city, the provincial capital.
