TAIZ, Feb. 09 (YPA) – A large demonstration took place on Sunday in Taiz province, organized by the Yemeni Teachers Syndicate and the Educators Union in the Saudi-led coalition-controlled areas, calling for salary increases, wage restructuring, and meeting the demands of striking teachers.
During the protests, participants raised banners expressing their demands to improve financial conditions, address the deterioration of the local currency, and pay overdue allowances and salaries.
In its statement, the union expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the pro-coalition authorities’ disregard for teachers’ demands, noting the worsening economic and living conditions due to the sharp decline in the purchasing power of the local currency.
It stressed that the threat of famine looms on the horizon at a time when the pro-coalition government and the “Presidential Leadership Council” are un
able to find urgent and sustainable solutions to improve teachers’ conditions.
The statement called for accelerating the resolution of teachers’ issues, fulfilling obligations towards their rights, and ensuring the stability of the educational process.
The union expressed its commitment to continuing the strike and organizing more protest activities until all the demands of teachers and education staff are met.
