UNRWA: Thousands of Palestinians fled Jenin refugee camp

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Feb. 04 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated on Tuesday that most of the residents of the refugee neighborhood in Jenin, north of the West Bank, fled as a result of the Israeli occupation attacks on the area.

The agency reported that about 30,000 people sought refuge in neighboring areas, while internal sources reported that only about a thousand people remain in the Jenin camp.

UNRWA spokeswoman Juliette Touma described the situation in the camp as “catastrophic” due to the destruction of many homes and buildings as a result of the Israeli military campaign. She indicated that about 100 buildings were damaged or destroyed as a result of Sunday’s bombings.

Touma confirmed that the camp residents are living in extremely harsh conditions, as the bombings coincided with the return of children to school.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation army launched a large-scale operation in Jenin on January 21 with the aim of eliminating Palestinian fighters, which resulted in the killing of 70 people since the beginning of the year, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, and the operation also witnessed the destruction of buildings in Jenin camp.
