Thousands of teachers protest in Taiz over unpaid salaries

TAIZ, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Thousands of teachers, educators, and academics protested on Sunday in the city of Taiz, which is under control of Saudi-led coalition, demanding payment of their salaries, which have been delayed for nearly nine months.

In a statement issued during the protest, the demonstrators called on pro- coalition government to reform the wage and salary structure, disburse all allowances and adjustments, implement promotions, and resolve the issues of teachers displaced from other provinces to Taiz by ensuring their employment and salary payments.

The statement stressed the importance of providing the monthly incentive to all teachers, as is the case in Aden, Hadramout, and Marib, while also urging measures to prevent the collapse of the local currency and the further depreciation of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies.

The protesters urged the pro-coalition government to disburse employees’ salaries on time at the end of each month without delay.

They affirmed that all union components would continue their strike until all demands are met in full, without any partial fulfillment or cuts.
