HADRAMOUT, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Saudi authorities have prevented hundreds of onion-laden trucks coming from Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, from entering its territory through the Al-Wadiah border crossing, resulting in the spoilage of large quantities of the crop.
Saudi authorities have halted more than 400 Yemeni trucks carrying thousands of tons of onions at the Al-Wadiah border crossing since the past few days, resulting in significant spoilage and massive financial losses for onion exporters and Yemeni farmers.
The Saudi authorities deliberately inflicted financial losses on Yemeni onion exporters after agreeing to resume the entry of agricultural and fish products last January, following a two-month suspension.
Onion-laden trucks have been stacking up on Yemeni territory near the Al-Wadiah border crossing with Saudi Arabia since the beginning of January, amid silence from the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition regarding the systematic destruction of Yemeni agricultural exports.
