BRUSSELS, Jan. 28 (YPA) – The European Union decided on Monday to extend economic sanctions imposed on Russia for further 6 months.
This came in a post by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, on the “X” platform.
“The EU foreign ministers agreed to extend sanctions against Russia again,” Kallas said.
She pointed out that extending the sanctions would deprive Moscow of the revenues needed to finance the war, adding Russia must pay for the damage it has caused.
The sanctions include banning EU countries from selling weapons to Russia and excluding Russian public banks from the financial sector in Europe.
The sanctions also restricted Russia’s purchase of certain sensitive technologies used in the oil and gas sectors from EU countries.
The decision to extend economic sanctions imposed on Russia has been made periodically since 2014.
