Israeli occupation notifies UNRWA to evacuate its headquarters

ALQUDS, Jan. 26 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday that it had received an order from the Israeli occupation’s government to evacuate its headquarters in occupied city of Al Quds.

The UNRWA said in a statement that the order to halt operations was inconsistent with the occupation’s international obligations as a member state of the United Nations.

The UNRWA director, Philippe Lazzarini, said in statements a week ago that the agency would be determined to continue working in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank after the occupation’s ban on its operations came into effect on January 30.

Lazzarini added that closing UNRWA would significantly weaken the international humanitarian response in Gaza.

“The agency is the only body capable of providing basic health care and education in Gaza, which will be urgently needed once the ceasefire comes into effect,” he stated.

The American-supported Israeli occupation has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 157,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and over 11,000 missing, in addition to massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and elderly people, in one of the man-made worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
