OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Jan. 20 (YPA) – The newspaper Israel Hayom quoted the mother of the captive, Emily Demari, who was released by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), as saying that her daughter is “in much better health than we expected.”
Emily was captured from her home on October 7, 2023, as part of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. During the operation, she was injured in her hand and leg, and she is the only British detainee in the Gaza Strip.
On Sunday, after 471 days of captivity, she was released along with Doron Steinbrecher and Romi Gonen as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
In a separate statement, Ilana Gritzewsky was released from captivity more than a year ago, expressed fear, stating that she has not heard any commitment from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war.
On Sunday, the Israeli military confirmed in a statement that it had received three female prisoners from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who were freed by Hamas from Gaza as part of the first phase of the prisoner exchange agreement between the two parties.
During the handover, the freed Israeli women appeared to be in good condition, in stark contrast to the Palestinian prisoners previously released by the occupation, who displayed signs of torture, mistreatment, and starvation, with some of them emerging in a state of severe emotional and psychological distress.
