Hezbollah warns of consequences of Israel’s failure to withdraw from southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, Jan. 20 (YPA) – Ali Fayyad, a member of Hezbollah’s bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, warned that Israel’s failure to withdraw by the end of the 60-day deadline would lead to the collapse of international agreements and undermine the role of global actors.

Fayyad emphasized that Hezbollah expects a complete Israeli withdrawal by January 26, adding that any failure to meet this deadline would push all Lebanese, across their various groups, to confront the occupation using all available means to liberate Lebanese territory.

He highlighted that a failure by Israel to withdraw and the continued inability of residents from 52 Lebanese villages to return home safely would jeopardize recovery efforts, stability, and state reform.

Fayyad stressed that Hezbollah would handle any prolonged Israeli presence on Lebanese soil with caution, considering it a breach of agreements and a retreat from international commitments.

He explained that the post-withdrawal phase would require significant efforts to protect civilians and ensure national sovereignty. This would also involve focusing on rebuilding affected areas and initiating national projects aimed at strengthening economic and political stability.

Fayyad further noted that the resistance has supported the state by compensating for its deficiencies in matters of liberation and sovereignty. He argued that what slowed the state’s progress over past decades was not the existence of the resistance but deviations from the Taif Agreement.
