British police arrest dozens in pro-Palestine protests in London

LONDON, Jan. 19 (YPA) – British Metropolitan Police arrested dozens of participants in pro-Palestine protests in London on Sunday for “violating the public order law,” as the police said.

Police Chief Adam Slonicki noted the protesters’ violation of restrictions near Trafalgar Square and the Broadcasting Corporation building.

Among those arrested was Chris Nineham, vice chair of the Stop the War Coalition, whose arrest was described by the coalition as violent and an assault on freedoms.

The coalition condemned in a statement the escalation of police interventions under pressure from supporters of Israel and called for the immediate release of the detainee.

The statement stressed that “this is an outrageous attack on the Palestine solidarity movement and civil liberties, and Chris Nineham must be released immediately.”

Police confirmed the detention of one of the organizers without mentioning his name, noting that they had supervised the security of more than 20 pro-Palestine protests since October, noting that the number of arrests on this day was the largest.
