YCLU threatens Aden government with popular escalation

ADEN, Jan. 15 (YPA) – The Aden-based Yemeni Confederation of Labor Unions (YCLU) threatened on Wednesday the coalition-backed Aden government with popular escalation to stop the major deterioration in the economic, financial and service aspects.

In a protest rally, the General Union said in a statement that the popular escalation against Ben Mubarak’s government would be continued at certain limits, holding the Presidential Alliance Council responsible for the catastrophic deterioration that the economic and service conditions have reached.

The rally affirmed that the union held the Presidential Alliance Council “responsible for the catastrophic deterioration that the country lives are experiencing.

It addressed the coalition, saying “that continuing to ignore our demands and living needs reflects your disregard for the people’s suffering, and will only lead to greater escalation.”

The Unions rally demanded the regular repayment of salaries to all workers in the civil and military sectors and retirees, and their return to their real value in line with the collapse of the currency and high prices, the improvement of basic services, stopping the deterioration of the local currency and the development of a comprehensive economic program to address the economic crises.

It also called for the cancellation of Law No. (6) of 1995, which grants immunity officials engaged in corrupt practices for legal accountability, and the re-operation of vital facilities such as the Aden refineries and its port to ensure revenues and support the economy.
