UAE uses hunger as means to pressure 28 fishermen detained in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, Jan. 13 (YPA) – The UAE-backed factions have blocked access to food for around 28 abducted fishermen in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.

The UAE forces, based at Al-Rayyan Civil Airport, instructed their personnel at the detention facility in the Ghail Bawazir district to deny food to the detainees, according to a local source.

The source added that the fishermen were taken into custody after staging a protest on Sunday outside the airport gate, objecting to restrictions preventing them from pursuing their fishing activities.

The UAE command conditioned the delivery of food to the detained fishermen on their agreement to refrain from future protests over being barred from fishing along the shores of Shahir city on the Arabian Sea.

Last November, nearly 6 fishermen were abducted and thrown into Emirati prisons at the airport after they broke the UAE ban on entering the sea to fish.

The fishermen have been prevented from accessing the sea by the UAE forces for nine consecutive years.
