ABYAN, Jan. 11 (YPA) – Abyan province, which is controlled by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), experienced on Saturday a wave of public anger due to the deterioration of essential services, particularly electricity.
Dozens of residents took to blocking main roads across various areas in the province to protest an ongoing power outage that has stretched on for over two weeks.
In the Makhzen area of Khanfar district, residents obstructed the international highway to voice their growing frustration over the prolonged crisis involving both electricity and water shortages. They criticized the Saudi-led coalition-supported government for its inaction in addressing their plight.
Protesters emphasized their commitment to continuing demonstrations until the government and local authorities in Abyan take effective measures to resolve the electricity crisis.
Similarly, protests erupted in Doufs, located in Zinjbar city—the provincial capital—as young people blocked the international road, citing over 17 days of power outages caused by fuel shortages at power stations.
These protests come amidst the worsening suffering of Abyan residents as a result of economic deterioration and rising prices, which has led to the spread of unprecedented, tragic humanitarian conditions in the province.
