LAHJ, Jan. 05 (YPA) – Drivers of public transport buses in the Radfan district of Lahj governorate, which is under the control of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions, have declared a strike in protest against what they described as illegal financial extortions.
Mohammad Mathna Al-Ghazali, the head of the Bus Drivers’ Syndicate in Radfan, stated in press remarks on Saturday that the strike was a response to repeated assaults on drivers by what he referred to as ‘thugs’ associated with the STC factions in Aden city.
He explained that these armed individuals impose high extortion fees on drivers and prevent their passage unless the demanded amounts are paid.
Al-Ghazali confirmed that the syndicate had sent multiple appeals to the leaders of the STC for intervention and to protect the drivers, but there has been no actual response.
He emphasized that the strike would continue until these practices are stopped and the illegal extortions are ended.
