Dr. Al-Farra: Gaza hospitals are in “catastrophic” situation due to basic medical shortages

GAZA, July 27 (YPA) – Dr. Ahmed Al Farra, head of the pediatrics and obstetrics department at Nasser Medical Complex, described the situation in Gaza’s hospitals on Sunday as catastrophic and extremely difficult due to a lack of the most basic medical supplies.

Speaking on Sunday, Dr. Al-Farra explained that children suffer severe malnutrition due to the lack of infant formula and essential nutrients like magnesium, folic acid, and vitamins B, C, and D, resulting in organ failure and nervous system damage.

He noted that some cases now seen in the hospital resemble conditions from ancient times, warning of lasting consequences for an entire generation — even for those who survive the immediate threat of death.

Dr. Al-Farra said infant formula is no longer available in Gaza. Expired cans, if found, cost up to $150. Desperate families are feeding babies canned food, resulting in choking and emergency surgeries.
