SHABWA, Jan. 02 (YPA) – Armed clashes broke out today, Thursday, between two tribes in the Merkhah Al Ulya district in Shabwa Governorate, which is under the control of Emirati-backed factions in southeastern Yemen.
Local sources said the fighting erupted between the “Al Qabali” and “Al Abdullah bin Hussein” tribes and lasted for more than two hours.
According to the sources, the Shabwa Defense Forces, which are stationed near the scene of the clashes, did not intervene to stop the fighting.
The sources added that the clashes caused panic among the residents of the area, though the losses resulting from the confrontation between the two tribes’ fighters have not been disclosed.
The districts of Shabwa have been experiencing ongoing tribal conflicts and a rise in acts of revenge, driven by faction leaders, alongside the spread of security chaos since the beginning of 2016.
