MAHRA, Dec. 12 (YPA) – Saeed Afri Ali, head of the political department of the sit-in committee against foreign presence in Mahra province, eastern Yemen, said on Thursday that “tribesmen will not allow the creation of armed factions in Mahra.”
In a statement to “Al-Mahriyah Channel,” Afri stated that Mahra’s people are closely monitoring the situation, preventing external parties from establishing armed factions, despite their intentions, which could destabilize the province’s security and contribute to chaos, similar to the situation in other southern provinces.
Afri cited recent “takfir fatwas” in Mahra as evidence of the province’s security being destabilized by Salafist groups based in Qishn District, indicating a persistent threat. He stressed, “The establishment of camps for any extremist parties, whether from inside or outside the province, will not be allowed.”
The head of the political department emphasized that any attempt to establish Salafist factions in Mahra would not be successful and would be confronted by all people of the province.
This comes in light of Saudi Arabia’s trends to establish “Dera Al-Watan” factions from Salafist groups present in Mahra, with the aim of protecting the oil pipeline that it seeks to pass through Yemeni territory in Mahra to reach the Arabian Sea.
