Pro-coalition government admits corruption deal worth $180 million in Aden

ADEN, Nov. 13 (YPA) – The Prime Minister in the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, has admitted a massive corruption deal in the oil sector in the city of Aden worth more than 180 million dollars.

He explained that the corruption deal had wasted billions of riyals over the past years in Aden refineries.

Bin Mubarak’s confessions came after the southern street demanded that the coalition leave Aden, which suffers from total darkness for nearly 20 hours a day, in addition to a number of cities under the control of the coalition factions.

He stated that about 40-45% of the value of purchasing oil derivatives has been provided, amid the lack of fuel for power plants in Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Hadramout, and Mahrah.

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council’s leaders have accused the pro-coalition government of worsening the economic situation without significant reforms to limit the riyal’s collapse against foreign currencies.

The dollar’s selling price reached nearly 2,060 riyals, and citizens’ suffering has doubled due to rising basic food prices and the government’s inability to pay salaries.
