AMMAN, Oct. 31 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck this morning, Thursday, south of the Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan.
According to the Seismic Observatory in Jordan, the earthquake was 150 kilometers south of Aqaba, at a depth of one kilometer, and about nine kilometers east of Sharm El-Sheikh. The observatory added that the earthquake occurred on the Dead Sea fault.
Jordan News Agency reported that the tremor was considered a tangible tremor and did not affect the infrastructure.
In the same context, the Egyptian media quoted the director of the Jordanian Seismic Center, Engineer Ghassan Suwaidan, as saying “the earthquake occurred at 7:35 am today, Amman time, at a depth of 6 kilometers.”
Suwaidan pointed out that the earthquake had no impact and was considered a weak earthquake.
In turn, Dr. Taha Rabeh, head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, revealed the details of the earthquake felt by citizens in Sharm El-Sheikh, stating that “it was a moderate earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.25.”It was 3 kilometers from the coast, and its epicenter was the Gulf of Aqaba.”
