3,398 Palestinian administrative detainees, including women, children, are in Israeli jails

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Oct. 31 (YPA) – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said on Wednesday that the number of administrative detainees in the Israeli occupation prisons reached 3,398 prisoners, including 30 women and 90 children, until early October.

This represents an unprecedented increase in administrative detention, accounting for 33% of the total number of prisoners, according to a joint statement issued by the prisoners’ institutions.

Since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, over 9,500 orders for administrative detention have been issued by the occupation authorities. Around 90 children, including a 14-year-old child, were also detained.

The statement stated that the increase in administrative detainees is attributed to the level of arrest campaigns in the West Bank, including al-Quds (Jerusalem), which included over 11,500 arrests from all categories.

Some detainees were subjected to execution and liquidation attempts during the arrests by shooting them directly in their homes and before their arrest.

The statement explained that the occupation issued administrative detention decisions for students, journalists, activists, human rights activists, and other groups, noting that the targeting of former prisoners, who constitute the highest percentage among administrative detainees, is ongoing.

The Israeli occupation authorities are detaining more than 10,100 male and female Palestinians in its prisons until the beginning of October 2024, while the number of administrative detainees is 3398.

The number of those classified as “illegal combatants” by the occupation prison administration from Gaza detainees and who were recognized by the occupation prison administration is 1,618, according to data from the prisoners’ institutions.
