Spain expands arms embargo with “Israel” to include ammunition purchases

MADRID, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Spain has announced the cancellation of a contract to purchase ammunition for the Spanish police from an Israeli company after it had agreed to it earlier.

Reuters reported, citing Radio Cadena Ser, that the Spanish Civil Guard police force had agreed to purchase more than 15 million 9mm bullets for six million euros ($6.48 million) from the Israeli company “Guardian.”

Spain’s decision came through its Ministry of the Interior yesterday, Tuesday, after it had pledged to stop arms sales to the Israeli occupation in October 2023, following the Israeli war on Gaza. The Spanish decision now includes arms sales and purchases to and from “Israel.”

The Spanish government stated in a statement that it confirmed its commitment not to sell weapons to “Israel” since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip, adding that “Although in this case it was a matter of purchasing ammunition, the Ministry of Interior began administrative procedures to cancel the purchase.”

The ministry added that “Israeli companies will also be excluded from any pending bids.”
