UN report: 90% of Gaza’s population faces severe food insecurity

GAZA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – By November, more than 90% of Gaza’s population will face severe food insecurity, the World Food Program said.

The program, in a statement on Tuesday, expressed its deep concern about the new Israeli legislation affecting UNRWA, which is indispensable in providing life-saving aid in Gaza.

It stated that food systems in Gaza have largely collapsed due to the destruction of factories and agricultural lands, while stores and markets have become almost empty.

The program warned that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip would turn into a famine if urgent measures were not taken soon, with winter approaching.

It explained that the program today has about 94,000 metric tons of food, which is enough to feed one million people for four months, ready to go to Gaza.

The program announced that it is ready to deliver urgent supplies to Gaza, but it needs to open and secure more border crossing points.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a genocidal war with full American support on the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 140,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, with more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens of children in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
