LAHJ, Oct. 28 (YPA) – Dozens of residents of Yafa’a district in Lahj province, south of Yemen, rejected the establishment of a religious center for extremist Salafist groups funded by the coalition.
Local activists circulated a circular by the Public Works Office halting work on the construction of the center in the Makil Al-Saadi area of Rasd district.
They stressed the need to reach a consensual solution that ensures that disputes and problems not to be raised among members of society.
Some sources indicated that the refusal to establish the center was to preserve the unity of the social fabric among the people of Yafa’a, to avoid any suspicious actions as a result of extremist ideas that religious groups would carry out.
The people of Yafa’a accused the coalition of implementing suspicious agendas by establishing centers for extremist Salafist groups by the so-called “Abu Haroun Al-Yafei.”
The Salafi leaders who receive funds from Saudi Arabia and the Emirates were able to start establishing the center, which sparked widespread controversy among citizens.
“Saudi Arabia and the Emirates” have established almost 23 religious centers for Salafi groups distributed across the various southern provinces, including 5 centers in the Al-Subaiha area of Lahj.
