Palestinian Ministry of Health: The situation at Kamal Adwan hospital is catastrophic

GAZA, Oct. 25 (YPA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza described the situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital, located in the northern Gaza Strip, as catastrophic in every sense of the word.

This comes after an incursion by Israeli occupation forces early Friday morning, amidst ongoing bombardment and a blockade that lasted for hours.

The ministry urged the free people of the world to make every possible effort to save what can be saved at Kamal Adwan Hospital, saying, “We do not understand how the world allows itself to stand by and watch the most horrific genocide and the broadest systematic destruction of the health system, resulting in the killing and arrest of the wounded, patients, and medical staff without taking any action.”

For the 21st consecutive day, northern Gaza, particularly Jabalia Camp and Beit Lahiya, is suffering under an Israeli siege and starvation, amid intense aerial and artillery bombardment, isolating the northern governorate from the rest of Gaza, as part of the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

In comments regarding the hospital’s incursion, coinciding with its bombardment, Kamal Adwan Hospital Director Hossam Abu Safiya said in media remarks on Friday, “We expected to receive aid, but we received tanks,” confirming that the occupation’s tanks are targeting all sections of the hospital.

He questioned the international laws that permit direct attacks on hospitals and the duration of the occupation forces’ stay in the hospital, emphasizing that “this is a catastrophe.”

Abu Safiya warned that “a few hours separate us from the deaths of these people,” referring to the wounded and patients in critical condition at the besieged hospital.

The ministry in Gaza indicated that occupation forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital and are holding hundreds of patients, medical staff, and displaced individuals seeking refuge from the continuous bombardment.

The ministry added that the hospital had not received any food, medicine, or essential medical supplies needed to save the lives of the wounded and patients, stressing that the situation is “catastrophic.”

Medical sources confirmed to Anadolu Agency that occupation forces stormed the courtyard of Kamal Adwan Hospital after besieging it for hours, with military vehicles intensifying fire towards the hospital buildings before the incursion, resulting in injuries to several medical staff members.

The same sources reported that occupation forces bombed the main oxygen station at the hospital, disabling it, which exacerbates the health situation of patients. They indicated that the occupation army detained a number of the wounded and their companions in the hospital’s premises following the incursion.
