EU official arrives in oil-rich Hadramout regarding de-escalation

HADRAMOUT, Sept. 24 (YPA) – Head of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, Amr bin Habrish, received a video call from the European Union official regarding the escalation in the oil-rich Hadramout that the alliance has declared since the end of last July.

The Alliance said in a statement it met with the EU Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munuera Viñals, to discuss developments in the region, efforts aimed at achieving peace in the country, the role played by the Hadramout Tribal Alliance and the Hadramout Comprehensive Conference and their adoption of legitimate human rights issues, in addition to redressing grievances and creating a just partnership.

The statement explained that Bin Habrish relied on the role of the European Union in supporting stability, strengthening the political process, and achieving lasting peace, indicating his welcome of international intervention in Hadramout.

Habrish’s statement pointed out that the crisis between the tribal alliance and the coalition-formed Presidential Leadership Council led by Rashad al-Alimi has become a matter of international interest and concern, which would make efforts to implement Hadramout’s demands to end the crisis.

The statement added that the meeting reflected the importance of Hadramout and its role in the political map, indicating that the tribal alliance succeeded in conveying the protest and escalation message to the international community.
