NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, strongly rejected the occupation’s claims that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) provided support to Hamas.
In an interview with CNN, Guterres stated: “Of course, there are tunnels under UNRWA buildings, just as there are tunnels everywhere in Gaza, but there has been no general commitment by UNRWA to provide any kind of support to Hamas.”
UNRWA has faced Israeli attacks and systematic smear campaigns following allegations against 12 of its employees, which led 18 countries and the European Union to suspend their funding. However, some of these entities and countries later reversed their decisions and resumed funding for the agency after UN investigations confirmed that the allegations were unfounded.
