UN Committee: Israeli occupation violated global treaty to protect children in Gaza

SANAA, Sept. 19 (YPA) – A United Nations committee, on Thursday, denounced Israel’s gross violations of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, saying that its military operations since October 7 had a “catastrophic” impact on them.

“The Committee condemns in the strongest terms the gross violations of the rights set forth in the Convention occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the massive loss of life due to military actions carried out by Israel,” the four-member committee said in a document.

The Israeli delegation said in a series of hearings at the United Nations earlier this month that the agreement does not apply to Gaza and the West Bank, adding that “Israel” is committed to respecting international humanitarian law, as the delegation claimed.
