“Madrid Statement” affirms commitment to two-state solution

WORLD, Sept. 14 (YPA) – The “Madrid Statement” affirmed that a two-state solution is the only way to achieve lasting peace and security.

A statement was issued by representatives of the Joint Ministerial Contact Group from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, as well as the foreign ministers and representatives from Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Spain.

This statement emphasized the representatives’ unwavering commitment to the two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

They called for serious efforts toward implementing a political solution that ends the occupation and establishes an independent Palestinian state.

The representatives  in Madrid highlighted  the international consensus on the need to stop ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people from Rafah to Jenin, halt the horrific massacres faced by the Palestinian people, and implement the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on the Palestinian issue.

They called for enabling the Palestinian government to fulfill its duties in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and for establishing a political path based on international legitimacy leading to the end of occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Additionally, the statement reiterated the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the full return of control of the Rafah crossing and other borders to the Palestinian National Authority, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza.
