HADRAMOUT, Sept. 04 (YPA) – The “Hadramout Tribes Confederacy” condemned on Wednesday the attack on peaceful protesters, residents, and fishermen of the Shuhir area, with a hand grenade, east of Al-Rayyan Airport in Hadramout province in eastern Yemen.
In a statement issued today, the confederacy described the attack as a suspicious and condemnable crime, noting that it is outside the Hadrami traditions and customs.
The statement explained that the attack resulted in the injury of a number of protesting citizens who were transferred to hospitals to receive treatment.
The confederacy considered the attack incident a threat to security and social peace, which cannot be ignored regardless of the justifications.
In its statement, the confederacy called on the governor of Hadramout, loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, and the chairman of the security committee to assume his responsibilities, demanding that he open an investigation into the crime, inform public opinion of its circumstances, and arrest its perpetrators and hold them accountable.
During the first hours of Wednesday, unidentified gunmen riding in an unidentified car targeted a sit-in of the residents and fishermen of Shuhir with a hand grenade, leaving eight injured, including five in serious condition.
The targeting came after the failure of the command of the UAE forces present at Al-Rayyan Airport during the past two days to contain the protests of the people and fishermen of Shuhir, who were demanding that they be allowed to fish after it had prevented them from fishing since the beginning of 2017 for security reasons, according to its claims.
